Answers to the most common questions about Snowcuber technology, models, and use cases
What is snow compression and how does it work?
Snow compression is the process of reducing snow volume before transport by removing air and moisture. Snocom’s patented system uses an auger, impeller, and compression chamber to achieve up to 50% volume reduction before loading snow into a truck.
How is snow compression better than traditional snow blowing?
Unlike snow blowers that scatter snow, our technology compresses and loads snow in a controlled way — reducing truck movements, emissions, and total cost of operation.
Does the Snowcuber work with wet or icy snow?
Yes. The Snowcuber is engineered to handle all types of snow, dry, wet, icy or mixed, thanks to its robust impeller and compression unit.
What’s the difference between the Compact Snowcuber and MK6?
- The Compact Snowcuber is ideal for urban areas and small ski resorts (80–200 t/h).
- The Snowcuber MK6 is built for high-capacity environments like airports and industrial zones (350–500 t/h).
Can I use the Compact Snowcuber with different tractors?
Yes. With the optional independent Hydraulic Power Unit (HPU), the Compact Snowcuber does not rely on the tractor’s hydraulics and can be connected via rear PTO.
Is ISOBUS required?
Yes. Both models are ISOBUS-compliant and require a tractor that supports ISO 11783-2 for full functionality.
How do I control the chute and compressor?
All major functions (chute rotation, extension, start/stop, reverse) are controlled from inside the cabin via the ISOBUS interface.
What about blockages or snow jams?
The Snowcuber features an in-cab reverse function to clear blockages quickly and safely — no manual intervention needed.
What kind of maintenance does the Snowcuber require?
Both models are built for low-maintenance operation. Basic maintenance includes greasing, hydraulic oil checks, and filter replacements. The system is modular for easy access and service.
Is the Snowcuber suitable for airports?
Yes. The MK6 is designed for apron, runway, and taxiway operations, with proven performance at airports like Schiphol, Zürich, and Paris CDG.
Can the Snowcuber be used in mountainous ski areas?
Absolutely. The Compact model’s size and mobility make it perfect for narrow roads, steep access points, and limited truck availability.
Can municipalities or cities use this?
Yes. Urban applications benefit from fewer truck movements, quieter operation, and more precise control in tight environments.
Do you offer demonstrations?
Yes. We provide free live or virtual demonstrations throughout Europe.
Where are the machines produced?
All Snowcuber models are designed and built in the Netherlands by Hydrauvision Systems B.V.
Do you provide training and after-sales support?
Yes. We offer on-site installation, operator training, and a dedicated European support network for service and parts.
